Why we started Allegany County Matters PAC
Hear from the board about why we registered a federal PAC and what we plan to do with the money we raise.
We started Allegany County Matters PAC because Washington isn’t going to elect a Democrat in New York’s 23rd. We are.
As a group, Allegany County Democrats have a $1,000 combined contribution limit for federal races. Even if the local party had $10,000 to give, election law forbids it.
Individuals can give up to $3,500, but who do you know that writes checks like that? (When you think of some, please send them our way!)
As a federally registered PAC, Allegany County Matters can raise unlimited funds and contribute up to $10,000 to a single candidate in an election year (primary/general combined.) AND it can spend unlimited funds supporting candidates—purchasing lawn signs, billboards, literature, buttons, mailings, etc.—so long as there is no coordination between the PAC and the campaign.
Allegany County Matters PAC aggregates and multiplies support from Allegany and beyond, leveling the playing field and elevating our candidates.
That’s the entire idea behind this PAC.
What we plan to do with the money
Every dollar we raise in 2026 goes to one job: electing a Democrat to Congress from NY-23. First, we’ll make direct contributions ($5K primary/$5K general) and then invest the remainder in lawn signs, billboards, mailings and the like.
We will report every contribution and every expenditure, as the law requires. If you want to see our filings, visit fec.gov and search for our committee ID: C00927384.
How to help
The most useful thing right now is small-dollar contributions, monthly if you can. Twenty-five dollars a month from a thousand neighbors beats one big check, and it’s the kind of money that will turn hope into hallelujah!
You can chip in at our ActBlue page, or mail a check to PO Box 12, Scio NY 14880. Either way works.
If you want to do more than that—knock doors, write postcards, start a PAC like this in your county, host a porch meeting—email us at info@alleganycountymatters.com and we will find a way to put your talents and passion to work.
